Topic: How to Unwind Your Monkey Mind ...and get Yourself Realigned
Instructor: Michael Brown
Description:
Are you familiar with the term "monkey mind?" Do you have constant non-stop running commentary filling your head with persistent thoughts? We all have it, with dozens of voices clamoring for attention, approval, and validation.
Buddha identified this dilemma over 2,500 years ago. He described the mind as filled with drunken monkeys, jumping around, screeching, chattering, and carrying on endlessly. It's super stressful to have a bunch of "monkeys" chattering in our heads all day, isn't it?
This disjointed flow of thoughts that fly through our minds during a typical day can be anything from distracting to truly disruptive. It may include a barrage of "I'm not good enough because… " statements, with harsh criticism of everything about our lives, body image, finances, relationships, work, you name it. When we believe this story and make judgments because of our mental thought processes, we essentially fall into the trap of a self-fulfilling prophecy, punishing ourselves for not being the monkey's skewed idea of "perfect."
The BG5 - Human Design for Business System shows us where our mental monkeys are plaguing us; showing us the mechanisms that condition and homogenize us, obscuring our highest potential. In BG5, Human Design's Career and Business application, we can identify these monkeys' "homes" by looking at what we call 'Shadows & Distractions', one of the 16 career design success codes.
The mind inside of our head often has the maturity of a five-year-old. When we believe what it says about us and the situations we find ourselves in, we experience bitterness, frustration, anger and disappointment. Resistance like this hampers our ability to be present, to concentrate, and certainly to activate high-performance in our work and life. The mind's shadow state tends to freeze us in time, loops into our trauma patterns, and can make us feel insignificant, unworthy, and powerless.
Imagine those voices inside your head about yourself that speaks to fear, anxiety and nervousness as a pack of howler monkeys, sounding the perpetual alarm, pointing out everything we should be worried about that could lead to discomfort, embarrassment, or pain.
Do you recognize any of the typical monkey mind chatter?
Which one of those in the list above triggered you the most? We call it "The thought you think that makes you shrink." These are the thoughts that are most valuable to question. Our monkey mind holds voices of fear, anxiety, and similar negative self-talk. It also shows us our greatest area of wisdom potential and growth.
Have you seen how this chatter can get in your way and prevent you from aligning with your truest self? All of that negativity is detrimental to our nervous system, making us unable to see things clearly, take advantage of the right opportunities for the advancement of our career, and can make us utterly miserable.
It is believing the story of our minds inside our head about our situations that trap us in the cage of multiplying monkeys, every single time.
How do we free ourselves from the monkey mind's hold on our lives?
Learning and using BG5 - Human Design for Business helps us comprehend how the monkey mind works and where our "monkeys" stem from.
The solution to stop the endless chatter is operating in alignment with our nature. BG5 allows us to get back into the flow of our authentic purpose. The first step is to unlock our genetic code, and use a simple, reliable decision-making strategy to access our body's innate intelligence.
